Sustainability at Ewhurst Park is not a standalone initiative — it is the foundation of how the estate is managed, restored, and experienced.
Ewhurst Park is an active rewilding estate, recognised by Rewilding Britain, and forms part of a wider movement to restore biodiversity and natural ecosystems across the UK. Our approach is rooted in working in harmony with nature, regenerating the land, and embedding responsible, low-impact practices across every aspect of the estate — from land management to food production and guest experience.
A Living Landscape
Ewhurst Park is actively undergoing a process of rewilding, allowing nature to recover and thrive. Through wildflower meadows, natural grazing, and low-intervention land management, we are restoring habitats and encouraging native species to return, creating a resilient and diverse environment that supports wildlife and long-term biodiversity.
Estate-Led Farming & Field-to-Fork
Our food philosophy is intrinsically connected to the land. Through estate-led, regenerative farming practices, we rear livestock and grow produce with a focus on animal welfare, soil health, and natural cycles. This enables a true field-to-fork approach, where ingredients are sourced directly from the estate wherever possible.
Our market garden supplies a seasonal variety of fruits, vegetables, and herbs, while our livestock plays a vital role in both our culinary offering and the ecological health of the land. Land within the park offers a natural bounty of fruits and berries which are hand foraged and transformed into food products utilising local partners. Menus are shaped by seasonality, reflecting what the estate naturally provides. Where additional sourcing is required, we prioritise seasonal, local, and traceable ingredients, working with producers who share our commitment to responsible and regenerative practices.
Renewable Energy & Resource Efficiency
The estate is powered in part by a biomass heating system, providing a renewable, lower-carbon alternative to conventional energy sources. This forms a key part of our strategy to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and minimise our overall carbon footprint.
We continue to improve energy efficiency across the estate through:
• The gradual introduction of LED lighting
• Intelligent heating controls and energy monitoring
• Gradual transition to electric vehicles from petrol and diesel engines once they are beyond repair
• Reducing unnecessary energy consumption wherever possible
We are committed to ongoing improvements that support the long-term climate resilience of the estate.
Resource Management & Circular Practices
We take a circular and responsible approach to resource use across the estate:
• Recycling is implemented across key waste streams, including glass, paper, and cardboard
• Cooking oil is collected and recycled responsibly
• Organic waste is composted and returned to the land to support soil health
• Paper usage is minimised through digital communications, including e-brochures, confirmations, and invoicing
• Printing is limited and double-sided as standard
Materials used across the estate are carefully selected, with a preference for recyclable, compostable, and sustainably sourced options wherever possible.
Water & Land Stewardship
We adopt a considered and low-intervention approach to water and landscape management. By supporting natural drainage, restoring habitats, and allowing ecological processes to function with minimal interference, we aim to create a self-sustaining and resilient environment.
Low-Impact Guest Experience
We encourage guests to be part of our sustainability journey through simple, thoughtful choices — such as opting out of daily linen and towel changes to reduce water and energy use.
In return, we offer an experience that is both refined and deeply connected to the natural environment, from seasonal dining to surroundings shaped by the evolving landscape.
Community & Stewardship
As custodians of the estate, we recognise our responsibility to the wider community. We actively support local initiatives, collaborate with regional producers and partners, and contribute to projects that align with our environmental and social values.
Accountability & Ongoing Commitment
Sustainability at Ewhurst Park is an evolving, long-term commitment. We regularly review our environmental practices and continue to refine our approach in line with emerging best practice in land stewardship, conservation, and sustainable hospitality.
As the estate continues to regenerate, we remain committed to:
• Enhancing biodiversity and ecological resilience
• Strengthening our estate-led and regenerative food systems
• Reducing environmental impact and resource use
• Investing in renewable energy and low-impact infrastructure
Our aim is to ensure that every aspect of the estate — and every event held within it — contributes positively to the landscape, the community, and future generations.
